Adopted Stray Dog Becomes The Most Adorable Friar In Monastery

When the friars at a Franciscan monastery in Cochabamba, Bolivia posted photos of their latest member, they didn’t know that he would become a viral sensation.

Carmelo the dog was adopted from Proyecto Narices Frias (Cold Nose Project), and nicknamed Friar Bigoton (which in Spanish means “Moustache”). Good humored friars dressed up the latest addition to their brotherhood in traditional Franciscan garb and the resulting photos won the hearts of millions of people around the world. The founder of the Franciscan order is St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the friars hope that Carmelo will encourage dog adoption worldwide.
