The city of Aleppo, Syria has been in the news a lot in the past months. It’s been a major battle ground in a war between several conflicted factions in Syrian war. However, among the stories of death, destruction and refugees comes an inspirational one, one about a man who decided to stay behind and take care of homeless cats and cats abandoned by the owners who left the war torn country.
Meet Mohammad Alaa Jaleel, also known as the cat man of Aleppo. In the city under siege he and his cats found love and companionship in each other. And although most of his friends have had to escape, Mohammad told the BBC that he would never leave the cats behind.
