Mothers love is one of the most powerful emotions not only for human mothers but all across the animal kingdom.
We’re so used to exploiting cows in the meat and dairy industry that we forget that cows have probably the strongest maternal instinct in the world. In fact it’s so strong, scientists compare it to that of human mothers so just like us, separating a momma cow from her calf they can respond with an overwhelming sense of grief and anxiousness.
Such was the case for Karma, a cow rescued by The Gentle Barn animal sanctuary.
The animal sanctuary had no idea that Karma’s previous owners actually hid her baby called Mr. Rojas from the sanctuary’s workers just so they could sell him after she left. Heartache over not being able to be there for her baby was so overwhelming that she cried all through the night and even began dripping milk. That’s when rescuers decided to go back and confront the owner…
They demanded they give them Mr. Rojas so he could be with his momma who had been missing him desperately.
When the trailer toting Mr. Rojas pulled into the sanctuary, Karma instinctively knew that her precious baby was on board. She began calling out to him and the second that baby stumbles out of the trailer, weak, starving and mistreated, the guttural sound Karma makes will break your heart.
